This interactive durational performance reflects on notions of woman's biological and social purpose connected to communal care and motherhood. The artist, encased in a ruffled dress made of over 300lbs of cake, invites participants one by one to cut off a piece of cake, a process simultaneously joyful and destructive. Through this performance Hatch embodies the tension inherent in archetypal maternal figures, embracing both the generosity of nourishing others and its accompanying self erasure.
